How you wash your hair and the products you use can go a long way toward maintaining smooth, shiny hair.

Follow these simple tips from dermatologists to maintain healthy hair.

    1. Wash oily hair when need it. How often you wash your hair should be based on how much oil your scalp produces. If your scalp is oily, you may need to wash it as often as once in two days. If you have chemically treated hair, your hair may be drier, so you may want to wash it less frequently. As you get older, your scalp makes less oil, so you may not need to shampoo as often. But if you see flakes in your hair, you may not be shampooing enough. This can lead to dandruff and other scalp diseases.
    2. Concentrate shampoo on the scalp. When washing your hair, concentrate on cleaning primarily the scalp, rather than washing the entire length of hair. Washing only your hair can create flyaway hair that is dull and coarse.
    3. Use conditioner after every shampoo. Using a conditioner can significantly improve the look of damaged or weathered hair by increasing shine, decreasing static electricity, improving strength and offering some protection from harmful UV rays.
    4. Concentrate conditioner on the tips of the hair. Because conditioners can make fine hair look limp, they only should be used on the tips of the hair and not on the scalp or length of the hair.
    5. Choose a shampoo and conditioner formulated specifically for your hair type. For example, if you color your hair, use a shampoo designed for color-treated hair. Regardless of cost, many shampoo and conditioner brands provide the same benefits.
    6. Protect hair when swimming. Protect your hair from the damaging effects of chlorine by wetting and conditioning your hair before swimming. Wear a tight-fitting swim cap and use a specially formulated swimmers shampoo and deep conditioner after swimming to replace lost moisture.
  • Body Care

    What Is Body Care?

Body care essentially refers to any practice that works to look after the skin and hair on your body. From cleansing, exfoliating, and hair removal to nail care and body brushing — all of these activities can be classified as body care. Body care can also include regularly changing sanitary items during your menstrual cycle.

    Why Is Body Care Important?

When you think about it, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to invest so much time in our skin from the neck up, only to leave the rest of our skin high and (literally) dry. Body care is essential to ensure we're healthy, hygienic, and hydrated from head to toe. A good body care routine will help to prevent any skin dryness and irritation, reduce ingrown hairs or hair removal rashes, and limit the risk of infections in the skin or nail beds. Our bodies go through a lot in our day-to-day lives, from helping us move through the world and braving the elements, to bouncing back after knocks and bumps and helping us fight illness and infection. So, our bodies really do deserve some extra love.

  • SUN & TAN

The SPF (Sun Protection Factor) scale is not linear:

    • SPF 15 blocks 93% of UVB rays
    • SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB rays
    • SPF 50 blocks 98% of UVB rays

So, one way of looking at this is that SPF 30 sunscreen only gives you 4% more protection than SPF 15 sunscreen. Or:

    • SPF 15 (93% protection) allows 7 out of 100 photons through
    • SPF 30 (97% protection) allows 3 out of 100 photons through.

So, while you may not be doubling your level of protection, an SPF 30 will block half the radiation that an SPF 15 would let through to your skin. It’s complicated, but to keep it simple, most dermatologists recommend using a SPF 30 or higher.

If you're planning to spend some time in the sun, it's important to protect your skin. But what if you want to get a tan? Don't worry, we've got you covered. We've researched and tested the best sunscreens for tanning, so you can enjoy the sun while keeping your skin safe.

  • Feet Care

    Basic Care

What kind of basic care do my feet need?

Just as you wouldn’t go a day without brushing your teeth, you shouldn’t you go a day without taking care your feet.

    1. Check them daily for cuts, sores, swelling, and infected toenails.
    2. Give them a good cleaning in warm water, but avoid soaking them because that may dry them out.
    3. Moisturize them every day with lotion, cream, or petroleum jelly. Don’t put moisturizer between your toes. You want to keep the skin there dry to prevent infection.
    4. Avoid wearing tight-fitting shoes. Your shoes shouldn’t hurt your feet.
    5. Skip the flip-flops and flats. They don’t provide enough arch support.
    6. Rotate your shoes so you’re not wearing the same pair every day.
    7. Trim your toenails straight across with a nail clipper. Then use an emery board or nail file to smooth the corners, which will prevent the nail from growing into your skin.

  • Oral Hygiene

Take care of your teeth and gums

    • Brush your teeth twice a day.
    • Floss between your teeth or use an interdental brush every day to remove food, debris and plaque lodged between your teeth.
    • Cut down on sugar, and other lifestyle tips. Have a healthy lifestyle, including eating well, not smoking and limiting your alcohol and sugar intake. It's good for your whole body, including your teeth, gums and mouth.
    • Brush baby teeth as soon as they come through.
    • Get children into a teeth-cleaning routine. Help your child have healthy teeth for life by having a good dental health routine.
    • Straighten crooked teeth with braces. More and more teenagers (and some adults) are having braces and orthodontics to straighten their teeth.
    • Have regular dental check-ups with your dentist. Do not put off going for a check-up. Detecting problems early can mean they're easier to treat. If problems are not treated, they may lead to damage that's harder, or even impossible, to repair.
  • For Men

Although there are similarities between men's and women's skincare needs there are also many differences. It all comes down to hormone differences between men and women, as men have much higher levels of testosterone which makes the skin 25 percent thicker and behave differently from woman’s.

The higher levels of testosterone also lead to denser hair follicles, oilier skin and larger pores which pump out sebum.

Due to the differences between men's and women's skin, men need to find products that are specifically designed for their needs. Men therefore require active ingredients that contain higher concentrations with better absorption to penetrate thicker skin and formulas that are more focused on oily skin.
